Why a chat window can’t keep your report

ChatGPT and other general AI chat tools are good places to think about data you paste in. A recurring report needs governed numbers, your readers’ access rules, checks against the data, your design and a schedule, and that is what Rahoto is built around.

Here is what each one does, side by side, and when a chat window is still the right tool.

  • Governed numbers
  • Checked against the data
  • Your design
  • On a schedule

Our position

A chat window is the wrong place to keep a report

A chat window is a good place to think. It is the wrong place to keep a report: it only knows what you paste, it can’t see who is allowed to read what, and next month you start again. BI is where analysis lives, and Rahoto publishes on top of it. Slides look right once and need rebuilding every cycle.

This is Rahoto’s position, not a survey result or a quotation. General AI tools differ and change; the point is what a chat window is for.

Side by side

Four things a recurring report needs

Each row is one thing a report you send every cycle has to do, set against the kind of tool people reach for.

Four needs of a recurring report, across general AI chat, BI dashboards, slides and spreadsheets, and Rahoto
A recurring report needs General AI chat BI dashboards Slides and spreadsheets Rahoto
Knows which numbers are governed and who may see them No: it sees what you paste Yes, on screen No Yes, and the same rules hold in the delivered report
Checks its words against the data No No narrative Manual Yes, before an issue goes out
Looks like your work No Looks like the tool Yes, by hand every month Yes, built once
Runs again on the 1st without you No Waits to be opened No Yes, and delivers it

Rahoto’s AI

AI that starts from your data, not a blank box

  • Your context, not a blank chat box

Rahoto’s AI starts from your dataset, your report and your brand kit, not a blank chat box.

  • Drafts can’t cite missing columns

If a draft names a field your data doesn’t have, Rahoto fixes it or drops it before you see it.

  • Words checked against numbers

Before each scheduled issue, Rahoto checks the text against the data. If something material changed, the run waits for your review.

  • Your data rules travel with it

Set who sees which rows and columns once. The rule holds in analysis, in the editor, in reader questions and in what gets delivered. A report goes out with the publisher’s access, never more.

  • Identifiers stand in

Names and identifiers are swapped for stand-ins before a request leaves, and swapped back when the answer returns.

  • Previewed, then editable

Every AI change is shown before it’s applied, and afterwards it’s an ordinary, editable part of the page.

  • A first draft in your design system

Describe the report and Rahoto drafts it in your design system for you to edit.

  • Bring your own model

Route the AI tasks you choose to your own OpenAI- or Anthropic-compatible endpoint.

Fair use

When a chat window is the right tool

  • Thinking out loud

Working out what to ask of your data, or drafting wording by hand, is what a chat window is for.

  • A one-off

With no recurring cadence and no readers who need their own access rules, a chat window is simpler.

Limits

What Rahoto does not claim

  • No accuracy guarantee. The text check compares words with the data and holds a run for review; it does not prove a statement true, and web-link-only runs skip the narrative refresh.
  • A first draft of a whole report needs a configured AI provider, and Rahoto refuses to draft from an incomplete data profile. The page makes no claim about how long a draft takes.
  • Bring your own model is one endpoint per organisation.
  • Rules set by your data owners hold everywhere only when their author governs the source; otherwise a rule covers its own report.

Questions people ask

Can ChatGPT automate my monthly report?

In our view, a chat window is built for a conversation, not for a recurring report: it works from what you paste, and nothing in it applies your readers’ access rules or sends the next issue. In Rahoto you set the cadence once and Rahoto refreshes, rebuilds and delivers.

Is Rahoto’s AI more accurate than a chat tool?

Rahoto makes no accuracy guarantee. Before each scheduled issue it checks the text against the data, and if something material changed the run waits for your review. That check is not a guarantee that a statement is true.

Can I still use a chat tool alongside Rahoto?

Yes. A chat window is a good place to think. Keep the report in Rahoto, where it stays connected to your data, your design and your schedule.

Can I use my own model with Rahoto?

Yes, with limits. You can route the AI tasks you choose to your own OpenAI- or Anthropic-compatible endpoint, one endpoint per organisation, on plans that include it.

Keep the report where it can run

Bring the report you now rebuild by hand every cycle and see it bound to your data, in your design, on your schedule.
